History of APSCVIR
In the year 1991, there was a course of Interventional Radiology in Singapore, where Professors Lenny Tan (Singapore), Kyoichi Hiramatsu (Japan), Man Chung Han (Korea), Jae Hyung Park (Korea), and Ken Thomson (Australia) participated. They gained the sympathy of founding a scientific society for cardiovascular and interventional radiology during the meeting. They founded the Asia Pacific Society of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology as a world-wide network of interventional radiologists, just as others have with SCVIR of USA and with CIRSE of Europe.
The Officers for 1991 to 1992 were as follows: President Lenny KA Tan, President-Elect Man Chung Han, Secretary Ken Thomson, Treasurer Kyoichi Hiramatsu, Membership Committee Hideo Uchida (Chairman, Japan), Nara Vaeusorn (Thailand), Wong Siew Hua (Hong Kong), Program Committee Jae Hyung Park (Chairman), Hsien Jar Chiang (Taiwan), Abdul Samad Sakijan (Malaysia).
After reaching a consensus to form the Asia Pacific Society, they decided for Korea to hold the first meeting of Asia Pacific Congress of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology (APCCVIR). Professor Man Chung Han accepted the proposal to become the Organising Chairman on condition that the 2nd biennial meeting should be followed in Japan in 1995 and the 3rd meeting in Australia in 1997.
Since 1993, when the 1st APCCVIR was successfully held in the Hilton Hotel, Seoul, Korea, the biennial meetings of APCCVIR were satisfactorily followed in other Asia Pacific territories. The Presidents and Officers of the Society, and the Organising Committee and venues of the successive meetings are summarised in Table 1 and Table 2.
